Enjoying the same climate as Provence and Languedoc, St Gilles is an attractive and fascinating town with many spots of historical interest to be found along it's winding streets. St Gilles was a very important port in the Middle Ages, the town sheltered the church of Xlle and was the birthplace of Pope clement IV. The town also has a large amount of Roman art, and was an important stop for pilgrims. The landscape surrounding the base is unique with lush flora and fauna providing a home to some of the country's most spectacular bird life.
